All About Scones

What is a scone, really?
A scone, at its simplest, is a small, lightly sweetened or savory baked good made from flour, fat, a leavener, and a small amount of liquid. The texture sits somewhere between a biscuit and a cake. The flavor is restrained on its own, which is exactly what makes it the perfect canvas for everything from blueberries to bacon and cheddar.
Scones started in Scotland and traveled with the British across the world, picking up new traditions along the way. The Royal British style is served with clotted cream and jam and is built for afternoon tea. The American version often skews sweeter, denser, and bolder in flavor.
At Savannah Scone Company, we honor both traditions, and we add a third one of our own: the Southern Savannah scone. Real butter, real cream, and flavors that range from Cinnamon Roll to Green Chile and Cheese.
What makes ours different?
Three things.
- Real ingredients, no shortcuts. Real butter. Real cream. Real eggs from a farmer we know in Statesboro. Local honey from blocks away. No commercial mixers in this kitchen except for frostings.
- Handmade, every morning. Each scone is made by hand. The dough is mixed by hand, shaped by hand, and brushed by hand. That kind of care shows up in the texture.
- A menu that rotates. We have over 200 flavors and variations. The menu changes weekly so there is always something new alongside the bestsellers everyone knows.
How we got here
Sara Graham founded Savannah Scone Company in 2019, opening our first bakeshop in midtown Savannah. In 2025, Beth Copic purchased the business and carried the tradition forward. We have since grown to two locations: our original bakeshop on 65th Street and our newer spot on Congress Street.
If you have not had one yet, you have a lot of flavors ahead of you. Pick a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday menu, or a Tuesday or Thursday menu, and come find us. Bless your heart, you need a scone.
